Biography[]
Born Nigel John Dermot Neill to Dermot and Priscilla Neill, owners of the liquor company Neill and Co. in New Zealand. The family returned to New Zealand from Ireland when Neill was ten-years old. Neill made his breakout performance in My Brilliant Career in 1979, and continued with 1981's Omen III: The Final Conflict. Neill lost the role of James Bond to Timothy Dalton. His film career grew more and more successful with films such as 1989's Dead Calm, 1990's The Hunt for Red October, 1993's The Piano and Jurassic Park, 1994's Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book and the 2001 sequel Jurassic Park III. 1998 saw the release of Merlin, with Neill in the titular role, and a sequel in 2006, titled Merlin's Apprentice. In 2010, Neill starred in ABC's drama Happy Town, which lasted only eight episodes.
